We're happy to announce the release of Reason 13.3. Reason 13.3 will also be immediately available in the Reason+ subscription.
Here's what's new in 13.3:
Added/Improved Features
New Features
The Browser can now be used either as a side panel or as a separate window. We also made and improvements to the Browser logic:
Browser side panel
Browser window
- New option to show the Browser as a side panel on the left side in Reason and Reason Rack Plugin.
- The Browser as a side panel and the Device Palette are exclusive—showing one will hide the other. However, you can still see the Device Palette and the Browser as a window at the same time, just as in earlier Reason 13 versions.
- In Reason Rack Plugin, the “Open with Device Palette shown” setting is now a three-choice dropdown called “Open with side panel showing:” (Device Palette/Browser/Off).
- There is a new preference setting for default behavior (Browser as window or side panel), that is applied when you create a new song or open an older song (i.e. a song without this setting stored).
- In focus-less mode, the Browser no longer closes automatically when clicking Create/Import. To close, use the Browser button in the top panel, the F9 key, or the X button in the corner of the browser window. This allows you to keep the browser open while working.
- When using the Browser as a side panel in browse focus mode (Browse Patches, Create Instrument, etc.), clicking OK or Cancel will return to whatever was shown in the side panel when you entered browse focus (Device Palette, Browser in focus-less mode, or no side panel shown).
- When you exit browse focus by clicking OK (or by double clicking or pressing Return), the browser view will now stay in the last location and maintain any applied filters.
- When the Browser is a side panel, it can be resized by dragging. In narrow mode, the Locations column shows tool tips to help with navigation.
- When the "Load default sound in new devices" setting is selected in the Preferences, there is now the option to also start browsing in the folder of the default sound rather than all compatible patches All Locations.
New, better looking waveform drawing in:
- Sequencer
- Edit Sample window
- Sampling window
Visual refresh
- Most dialogs and and windows have changed from a native OS look to a unified Reason look. This does not only look more at home in Reason, it also means things looks the same on Mac and Windows.
- Texts and colors have been updated for a more unified look.
Preferences overhaul
- Reason’s Preferences have also been updated with a more intuitive layout and matching look.
- Sections are now to the left with the option to move between tabs with the up/down arrow keys.
- The previous "General" page is now split into "User Interface" and "Browsing" tabs.
- Some settings have been moved and in some cases renamed for better clarity.
- The "Show Cable Animation" setting has been removed. This is now always on, just like in Reason Rack Plugin.
- Fun fact: turning off cable animation was a CPU saving measure all the way back in Reason 1. Computer power have come a long way since!
Area buttons (Mixer/Sequencer/Rack)
- The area buttons now work more like the corresponding F5, F6 and F7 keys, where you can press multiple F-keys at once to view multiple areas. To add an area to your view rather than switch, you can now Shift-click the buttons. You can of course also still drag the dividers in the song window.
Remote
- Added Remote support for Allen & Heath Xone:K2
Bug Fixes
Browser
- Flat and Tree view showed scrollbars with different colors.
- Fixed an issue where re-opening the browser sometimes didn’t remember the state and view from before it was closed.
- Home Folder defaulted to “Flat View” instead of “Tree View”, as intended.
- Fixed an issue with the Indexer which could cause it to stall on Windows.
Sequencer
- Fixed a crash that could occur when clicking in the Scale Tempo window.
- Fixed a bug where double-clicking a velocity bar would zoom in on its note.
- Fixed a bug where the preview of notes in the Edit Area was too short and delayed on Windows.
- Quantize and Randomize buttons are now enabled in Slice Edit as intended.
- Fixed a bug where using Chop to… on notes in the Edit Area didn't work correctly. When Snap was On and Grid was set to a large value/division (e.g. 1/2), selecting Chop Notes to a smaller division would still chop it to the grid.
- Fixed a bug where selecting a note clip while an automation clip was open for editing would result in the automation clip still being selected.
- Fixed a bug where dragging the handle of the Sequencer Edit area over the Rack area wasn’t smooth sailing.
Rack
- Fixed a bug where the Player top bar was not shown correctly when saved in folded Combinator or Mix Channel/Audio Track device.
- Fixed an issue where an Audio Track device mistakenly could be added between a Player and an Instrument or Effect in the Rack.
- Fixed a visual issue where the "Add device" button in was cut off in some cases.
- Fixed an audio glitch when disconnecting active inputs on VST devices.
Mixer
- Fixed an issue where Route to New Output Bus would give the bus the same name as the source track.
Remote
- Novation Launch Key: Fixed an issue where Fader pickup didn't match the Reason parameters value and therefore the pickup function got lost.
Misc
- Fixed a bug where part of the Mixer mysteriously showed up to the party when dragging the Sequencer splitter even if it was hidden.
- Fixed a bug where maximizing the Reason window was broken on Windows at high zoom factors.
- Mixer and Sequencer handles are now highlighted when starting Reason.
- Fixed a bug where the Area buttons (Mixer/Sequencer/Rack) were not highlighted correctly when changing layout by dragging the dividers.
- Fixed a bug where Yes, No, and Cancel dialog buttons were highlighted wrong in the Save dialog.
- Fixed a bug where the Recording Meter was incorrect at certain zoom levels.
- Fixed an issue to make Kontakt 7 (VST3) load instruments faster.
- Fixed a bug where downloading a Rack Extension license file was broken on Windows.
