Note that the information below is for Reason 12.6 and later (including the corresponding Reason Rack Plugin version).
Using Reason/Reason Rack Plugin offline
The first time you log in in the "Welcome to Reason" login dialog, the program will automatically store your user credentials. The next time you launch Reason or Reason Rack Plugin they will start without showing the login dialog.
This also enables offline use, allowing Reason to run even if you have no Internet connection. Reason will run offline for a month (or for as long as your Monthly Reason+ subscription is active). This period is continuously renewed when you run Reason with an Internet connection. You do not have to do anything manually, except for connecting to the Internet once a month.
Logging out from Reason and Reason Rack Plugin
Logging out means removing the stored credentials - do this if you’re not going to use Reason on that computer, or if you need to log in to another Reason user account.
- In Reason, select “Quit/Exit and Log out” from the Reason (Mac) or File (Windows) menu.
- In Reason Rack Plugin, open the Settings window and select “Log Out on Quit”. When you quit your DAW session, you will be automatically logged out from Reason Rack Plugin.
The next time you run Reason or Reason Rack Plugin, you will need to enter your password in the "Welcome to Reason" dialog again. Internet connection is then required.
Authorizing a computer for long-term off-line use
In addition, if you have an Annual Reason+ subscription or own a Reason 12/13 license, you can authorize your computer for long-term offline use. This can be useful if you are travelling or working in a studio without internet access, etc. The long-term authorization allows for staying off-line on the authorized computer for one (1) year. This one-year authorization can then be extended, one year at a time.
If you are a Reason+ subscriber you are limited by the subscription end date, though. In most situations, authorizing a computer for long-term use is not necessary, though.
Authorizing Reason for long-term offline use
- Open the Preferences dialog in Reason
- Go to the Account and Authorization tab
- Click the “Add Long-term Authorization” button
Authorizing Reason Rack Plugin for long-term offline use
- Bring up Reason Rack Plugin in your DAW
- Click the Settings button to show the Settings window
- Under Account and Authorization, click the “Add long-term authorization” button
You can authorize up to three (3) computers for long-term use. If you’ve already authorized three computers, you will need to remove the authorization for one of them first. This is done by running Reason/Reason Rack Plugin on one of those three computers, and clicking the “Remove long-term authorization” button on the same page in the Preferences/Settings.
If you can no longer access your authorized computer, you need to contact support to remove its authorization. This can be done here.
For more details about authorization, please refer to the Introduction chapter of the Reason and Reason Rack Plugin Operation Manuals/Help.
