Reason, Reason Intro and Reason Essentials use an authorization system designed to be as flexible as possible, while at the same time providing the best possible protection for your license. Here's how it works:
Note: The information below does not apply to EDU/Multi-License users!
Registering your Reason/Reason Intro license
The core of the authorization system is your license number, which has to be registered to your user account on the Reason Studios web site.
- If you purchased a boxed version of Reason, follow the instructions printed on the insert to register your copy of Reason.
- If you purchased Reason/Reason Intro directly from the Reason Studios Shop, the license has already been automatically registered to your Reason Studios user account and you can use Reason/Reason Intro right away without any manual registration.
Running in authorized mode
To run Reason/Reason Intro with full functionality, the program has to run in authorized mode. There are two different ways to run Reason/Reason Intro in authorized mode:- Using Internet Verification
- Using an Computer Authorization (or an authorized legacy Ignition Key), to which your license has previously been written.
Running with Internet Verification
If you have a working Internet connection you can run with Internet Verification:Launch Reason/Reason Intro/Reason Lite, type in your Reason Studios user name and password in the Welcome dialog and click Log in:

The program then contacts the Reason Studios server and verifies that your license is registered to your Reason Studios user account. If everything is OK, the program launches with full functionality.
All your purchased Rack Extensions and active Trial Rack Extensions will also be available in the session (if you have previously downloaded the Rack Extensions to your computer).
Authorizing for use without Internet access
Note that the actual authorization process requires Internet connection! If you want to use Reason/Reason Intro without Internet access later on, you can download and install the CodeMeter application and then authorize your computer (and/or a legacy Ignition Key USB stick) from your Reason Studios user account.
Plug in your Ignition Key (if you have one), go here and click the Authorize button:

The Authorizer application launches and takes you to the Authorize Computer and Keys web page. On the Authorize Computer and Keys page, click the Authorize button in the Computer section to write your Reason/Reason Intro license to your computer:

The Authorizer app automatically launches the CodeMeter app in the background and the Reason/Reason Intro license is written to your computer.
The next time you launch Reason/Reason Intro the program automatically detects that your computer is authorized and the Welcome dialog is automatically skipped.
Further down on the Authorize Computer and Keys page you can also choose to authorize a legacy Ignition Key USB stick.
Click the Authorize button in the Ignition Key section to write your Reason/Reason Intro license to your Ignition Key.
If you then should plug your legacy Ignition Key USB stick into another computer, which has Reason/Reason Intro installed, you will be able to run Reason/Reason Intro in authorized mode on that computer – without Internet access. Note that this computer also needs to have CodeMeter installed!
Writing your Rack Extension license
If you have any purchased Rack Extensions, the combined license for these can also be written to your computer and/or legacy Ignition Key so you can use them without Internet access: Plug in your Ignition Key, go here and click the Sync All button:
Now, the Rack Extensions are updated (if necessary) and the combined Rack Extension license is automatically written to your computer (and to the connected Ignition Key, if any).
Note that only fully purchased Rack Extensions can be authorized on your computer/Ignition Key. Trial, Subscription and Rent-To-Own Rack Extensions always require that you log in using Internet Verification.
Running in Demo Mode
Finally, if you don’t have a working Internet connection, or any authorized computer (or Ignition Key hardware), you can run Reason/Reason Intro/Reason Lite in Demo Mode.In Demo Mode you can work as usual and even save your work. However, you cannot open songs in Demo Mode. To be able to open songs the program has to be authorized (computer or Ignition Key or Internet Verification) as described above.
